Hotel Gruner Baum   -  Austria

Hotel Gruner Baum
Open: All year
A member of the Relais & Chateaux Hotel Association, the Gruner Baum ("Green Tree") is owned and managed by the Blumschein family, who welcome you into their charming hotel like a part of the family.Nestled above the town of Bad Gastein amidst imposing mountain scenery, the hotel is situated on the threshold of the Hohe Tauern National Park in a village atmosphere and consists of five traditional Austrian buildings with a total of 80 rooms.

The Central theme of the treatments at the Hoteldorf Grüner Baum is the use of the local thermal water and the purified air of the local caves. The rain has been percolating down into the mountains for some 3000 years before it emerges to be used by man to cure his ills. These natural waters infuse with radon, a natural gas in the rocks. Water vapour then rises taking the radon with it eventually running out from 17 springs in the area.

These healing waters enable the radon to be absorbed through the skin where it is broken down over a 15-30 minute period. Radon breathed in remains in the lungs for up to 3 hours where it releases alpha rays (helium nuclei with a double positive charge). This radon is in extremely low doses and will not endanger you in any way.

These stimulating rays cause regeneration to enzymes and other substances and activate cell renewal. Chromosome damage is reduced and the body's resistance enhanced.

In 1951 it was discovered that miners in the area did not suffer from Rheumatism, Asthma, Sinusitis and many other afflictions that affect the rest of us.

The Grüner Baum's own spring water, the best drinking water you can find, is delivered straight to your bathroom tap. The thermal water, also coming into the hotel through its own pipeline from Bad Gastein, is used for thermal baths and the swimming pool. You can gargle it within the spa from a fountain, which may for instance benefit gum disease.

Cuisine at the Grüner Baum is a gourmet delight, offering a choice of Austrian and international dishes as well as catering for specific dietary requirements. For skiers there is a cross-country track that starts right in front of the hotel and leads towards the National Park, a beautiful small circuit of 4.5 km. For Alpine skiers, the first ski lift is 5 minutes away by car. There is a hotel shuttle service as well as a local bus. And for children there is a baby slope with a little ski lift within the hotel's grounds.

The children's club during the holiday season is a real treat and great fun for your little ones!
